Jay began his career in Internet properties in 2004 by co-founding ThreatSense Information Services with partner and best friend Chris Carlino. Together, Cross and Carlino relentlessly investigated several creators of spyware on the conviction that such scams were harming the Internet. Wired.com wrote an in-depth piece on the pair's spyware fighting efforts which can be read
here. ThreatSense was later sold under confidential terms to a leading anti-virus firm in 2005.
Cross used the buyout as an opportunity to pursue a business degree and develop new skills including:
- Copywriting
- Pay per cick (PPC) marketing
- Survey research
- Social media promotion
Since 2007, Cross has built and managed PPC campaigns for multiple happy clients, written for blogs like
WebUrbanist.com with 100,000+ daily readers, developed marketing systems for
IdeaBuyer.com and is preparing to launch
UberStudent.net, a blog offering productivity tips and advice to ambitious college students. Cross was also a finalist in Google AdWords guru Perry Marshall's 2009
Content Czar contest, enduring a rigorous multi-week screening process and earning the right to market products to Perry's jealously guarded, 50,000+ subscriber e-mail list. Remarking on the selection of finalists, Perry deemed Cross' work to be "excellent."
At Entourage Group, Jay Cross personally oversees the development and implementation of all marketing and promotional strategy.
